Hunting Personality of the Month        ...we are just everyday people...

Geraldine Rand is a hunt photographer

I was born within the sound bow bells, and brought up as a ‘townie’. When I was 19 I met a farmer’s son and immediately saw a different kind of life style. I can clearly remember looking out over some ploughed fields and thinking: “I want some of this”. Luckily my husband who I met some years later, had the same idea. We now live on the Essex-Cambs borders in a small cottage in the middle of field.

When my children went to school I began to study fine art in Cambridge as a mature student. The course gave me the confidence to express my self and I found my own style on paper, and through the lens.

I’ve always loved horses. My best friend as a child (and still now) came from a family that hired horses and carriages for weddings. I spent hours cleaning tack and trouping around gymkhannas to watch her compete. I learnt to ride as an adult, but was never more than a nervous hacker.

Working for the hunt is a great thrill for me. It fulfills my love of the countryside, as well as my interest in horses. It’s exciting and challenging. I am constantly trying to raise the standard of my work, looking for something that other photographers miss.

"As I see it, The Master's Voice has a very focussed and strong message, and is good at digging down into the real issues that effect hunting and the repeal of the hunting ban."
