Claire Irving
Claire is a true country girl, and pretty glam at that. She says she tried office work in nearby Newcastle but quickly decided it was not for her. Claire is a freelance shepherdess; she works on local farms at lambing time, and has other jobs such as part-time groom at local stables. She’s her own boss, takes responsibility in her stride, and is hugely popular in the rural scene about her home in Northumberland.
She knows and understands the holistic picture of the countryside better than most, and is certainly better positioned to make a balanced judgement on the management of our wild species - than a few dusty MPs more accustomed to being confined to the gloomy corridors of Westminster. A day out hunting on the back of Claire’s quad would give any of them the reality check they so obviously need.
Claire works hard to afford her own horse and hunts regularly with the Morpeth Foxhounds; and on her quad when the Tynedale are handy. (See Tynedale Quad Squad).
There are lots of girls like Claire in the hunting scene of rural Britain today. Plenty of males too, and with this unsung group of people about there will always be hunting in our countryside.
