March Countryside Services
Hounds and horses have always been the sport of thrills; no such more thrilling than when the field can jump some natural obstacles - a fallen tree, a hedge or set of rails. We look for the most challengeing spot for ourselves and trian our horses to meet those challenges.
Colin Brown, the course builder, came late into hunting and equestrian pursiuts. His partner Becky Cousins, is a keen cross country rider, and both are keen hunter followers and can be seen often in the hunting feild around east anglia and the Cotswolds. As a former former master, Colin understands the need to provide sport for the field, and Becky the need to train horses for competion.

Hunt jump
Colin has been building hunter trials and hunt jumps for two years mainly in the East Anglian region: customers include discerning hunt supporters, team chasers and local hunts. He has recently been engaged to build a course within the Waveney Harriers hunt counrty, which will not only be used by the hunt but has potential for use as a team chase course and for hunter trials.
Grants can be accessed for diversification by farmers and landowners, which with a bit of ingenuity and carefull construction using natural obsticles such as hedges, timber, ditches and the odd telegraph pole in addition to gates and rails, maintain stock integrity - and provide the challenges of the sport we all love.

Hunt jump fence
At an estate in Norfolk where the land owner and his family compete in team chasing and regularly hunt, this season has seen construction work of some 36 jumps consisting of timber, logstacks, banks, hedge, ditch, pole and gates. All have been completed, and plans for the expansion program for next year is underway.
To the eye the jumps would not look out of place on any farm, having been placed and constructed within hedge and ditch lines maintaining the natural feel of a days hunting. Livestock integrity is paramount as sheep and cattle feature prominently on the estate as does the family shoot.
Colins Company MarchCountryside-Services also offers the additional facility of experienced and trained tree surgeons, so timber from local sources never goes to waste and features highly in the construction processes allowing for a low cost solution to provision of materials.
