Vote-OK

Local Election Results
Many hunts were out and about campaigning across the country for pro-repeal candidates and councillors and we’re still in the process of collecting data on who helped where to enable us to build a picture of the level and the impact of our activities. If your hunt or club was involved in any local political campaigning please let us know – email tessa@vote-ok.co.uk
Countrywide the results for the Local Elections were excellent for the Conservatives and in particular, within the constituencies where we know Vote-OK groups have been very active, in the South West and Stafford.
We should, however, not be complacent. The Conservative percentage share of the vote may not have been enough to win a General Election; so therefore our continued and increasing support for the pro-repeal candidates will be crucial to achieving a change of Government.

(l-r) Alistair Jackson, Director MFHA; Stephen Lambert, Chairman MFHA; Simon Hart, Chief Executive Countryside Alliance; and William Hague, Shadow Foreign Secretary speaking at the MFHA AGM in London earlier this month
“If you want repeal you need a majority Conservative government. And if you want a Conservative government, every one of you and your friends, colleagues and supporters needs to play your part to help us get elected.”
William Hague, MFHA AGM London June 2009

“I urge you to ensure that this work dominates the life of your hunt from now until the General Election.”
Stephen Lambert, Chairman of the CHA, MFHA AGM, London
It is also worth remembering that a change of Government would provide a huge opportunity for the countryside as a whole - this isn’t just about hunting.
Amazingly 2009 marks 12 years since the Hyde Park Rally and 7 years since over 400,000 of us marched in London to demonstrate our support for hunting and the rural way of life. We were united then and we must remain so.
Help given by country sports enthusiasts will never be forgotten. We have a real chance of working towards changing the Government of this country and helping to elect an administration that is completely committed to rural affairs and sympathetic to the hopes and aspirations of the countryside. Repeal and taking hunting, and all other country sports off the political agenda must be our universal aim - removing the chances of hostile attack in the future.
“The passage of the Hunting Act revealed that Labour MPs respect for the views of minorities only extended to those minorities whose views they could readily agree with and the result was a piece of legislation so deeply prejudiced and so ridiculously unworkable that its existence weakens and discredits the laws of the land – so much so that the minority view that was opposed to it is quite possibly now turning into the view of the majority.”
William Hague, MFHA AGM, London 9th June 2009
