Who are FACE?
FACE-Europe is the acronym for the Federation des Association de Chasseurs De L’EU and translates for UK usage as: ‘The Federation of Associations for Country Sports in Europe’.
Mission statement: ‘to work for the adoption of policies within the EC for the wise use of natural sporting resources’.
FACE-Europe was founded in 1977 and their head office is in Brussels. Membership is drawn from the European Union and non-aligned European and Mediterranean countries representing some seven million followers of field sports activities. FACE-Europe is a lobbying institution maintaining close contacts with politicians and European Commission Officials.
FACE-Europe is tasked with defending and representing its members’ collective interests in both European and International institutions. It gives advanced warning of any initiative affecting field sports. It assists authorities by providing expert advice and information, and monitors subsequent proposals and decisions to ensure field sportsmens’ concerns are taken into consideration when legislation is drafted or amended.
It also has the objective of promoting hunting, shooting and fishing in accordance with the principle of wise and sustainable future use of natural resources, including rural development, conservation of wildlife, bio-diversity issues and the improvement , protection and restoration of wildlife habitats.
FACE-UK has member organisations representing all forms of field sports and their supporting institutions and is administered by an executive officer based at the Countryside Alliance offices in London. It monitors European Union legislation, analyses any implications and informs members accordingly. In conjuction with the facilities and expertise of FACE-Europe, it also prepares UK positions on field sports issues and drafts amendments to European legislation proposals. It also acts as a lobbying body making contact with MEPs and Government Agencies, Departments and Ministries.
