107th Vale of Rydal Hound Show
Don't Miss Rydal Hound Show on Thursday 12 August

My 12-foot dining room table is covered from one end to the other with paperwork relating to Rydal - Thursday 12th August 2010 will soon be here. Sarah Hoggarth, the show secretary and I have just finished our nightly telephone conversation on number of entries, marketing to do, exchange of top baby tips and of course how to repeat the success of the 2009 Show - a glorious sunny day - and thousands of country folk enjoying a relaxed and very sociable day and a very high standard of entries.
107th Vale of Rydal Hound Show which will be held on Thursday 12th August 2010 in the breathtaking Lakeland setting of Rydal Park. We are looking forward to welcoming our judges for this year – Sir John Gilmour from Fife and Mr Richard Tyacke MFH of the Sir Watkin Williams Wynn will be judging the foxhounds,, while Jean Brookhouse and her daughter Jane Slater will judge the Beagles. The Show of Harriers will be judged by Mr Patrick Till and the Show of Working Terriers will be judged by Mr Andy Coupe from Bicester. Also new for this year is a much larger catering tent with a larger area for sit down meals and the beer tent is being run for the first time by Ambleside Cricket Club, who will keep the prices reasonable.

The first Vale of Rydal Sheepdog Trials and Hound Show were held in the spectacular Rydal Park on 13th June 1901. It was started by a committee of 15 local residents and farmers under the patronage of Stanley le Fleming, the then owner of Rydal Estates. Today the Committee still consists of farmers and hunting enthusiasts, who commit hours of support on a voluntary basis. One Committee member, John Benson, who is retiring this year, has given 53 years of dedicated service to the Show. There will be a presentation on the day, to thank John for all his hard work and the professional way he has stewarded the Fell Foxhound ring.
