Quorn Hunt

Lowesby High Gate Competition

The Date: Saturday 26th March 2011. 6pm First Round Commences.

The Venue: Vale View Equestrian Centre.

The Aim: To find the best gate jumper in the hunting field throughout the country!

Inspired by: The 5th Marquis of Waterford who, in 1838, for a wager of one hundred guineas, jumped a gate in the dining room at Lowesby Hall after dinner!  The winning rider will receive a trophy replica of the actual gate jumped by the 5th Marquis of Waterford .

The Prize: The honour of the title of “Quorn Hunt Lowesby High Gate Champion” as well as £1000 to the winner and a trophy replica of the gate jumped by the 5th Marquis of Waterford .  There will also be prizes awarded for best outfit, best QH subsriber, best veteran, best side saddle, best under 25  and best 15hh and under.

Event organiser, Ashley Bealby, a Field Master with the Quorn, who, with Barbara Rich, deals in high class hunters and competition horses explains “the gate will start at 3ft high going up to 6ft 6ins maximum (if necessary!) each horse/rider combination must jump the gate cleanly in both directions to stay in the competition”. He added, “we hope there will be a number of horses sold by the Bealby/Rich partnership competing!”
The event will be limited to riders who have subscribed to a recognised pack of hounds during this current season. Their mounts will be ineligible if they have been registered with the BSJA in the previous 5 years or have actual affiliated winnings of more then £500.

Supporters and spectators from every hunt are welcomed as there will be a champagne reception, licensed bar and food being served throughout the evening and specially erected tiered seating to ensure no one will miss the thrills, and the spills, of the competition!
